    Don't Slack

Just because it's a little cold outside don't use that as an excuse for not training.

Do you have an indoor trainer ?

    Hi Disciple,

How is the weight loss going? Have you had much success in the time since you posted? Weight loss can be a difficult, can't it?!

Weight loss is NO JOKE!  You MUST keep track of EVERYTHING you eat.  If you are actually working out as much as you say you are, you are definitely eating MUCH more than you think you are.

You really need to cut down on the carbs, no more than 40% of your total calorie intake.  With less carbs, you will initially drop a considerable amount of water weight initially.  That is not a bad thing as excess water weight is a bad thing anyway.  Just continue to hydrate yourself so you don't become dehydrated.

I guarantee that by just cutting down on your carb intake, tracking EVERYTHING that goes in your mouth, and continuing your exercise regimen you will see steady weight.

    Re: Don't Slack

I lost almost 60 pounds in one year (sept 2005 to sept 2006) by just cycling..... ALOT. I didn't really diet... I just rode 13,000 miles. :-)

If you're doing alot of intervals or tempo riding, perhaps your body is primarily using glycogen stores instead of fat for energy while on the bike. This is just me, but... I lose more weight when I keep my heart rate at or below 140 bpm (Zone 2) and ride longer distances (3 plus hours per ride) than I do on my shorter more intense rides (Zone 3 or 4 for instance). That type of riding however does not equate to SLOW long distance, but rather STEADY long distance at a brisk but sustainable pace. This will build areobic capacity as well as target fat stores.

If you drink alot of fluids with calories (especially sweet drinks) you can cut up to 3,000 calories a week by drinking ONLY water. I do drink a sports drink while riding, but otherwise I try to drink only water throughout the day. I will sometimes drink a glass of orange juice (100% juice) that is fortified with glucosimine or added essential vitamins but that's about it.
