    Track Racing

Yea, that would be a great idea because we have something like that here in Columbia, SC. Every Tuesday night during the season, we have a training crit or road race at one of may different locations across the city, and one of them is an old Nascar half mile racing track. It's a great way to build a cycling community in any area if you can find a safe place where cars don't bother you.

    Hey,

I always like the idea of having "training" races during the week. I think its a good way to gather the cycling community as you said and also to try and change the mind set in the community about cycling. My goal is to get the kids and the parent’s involved so they can see cycling is a friendly, healthy and fun sport that everyone can enjoy.

I have a big budget to put on some cycling events, however I have to do it right. Bands, cheerleaders, celeb's and much more. That way we can have intrest from other people outside of cycling.

I lthink the idea of having a criterium/track series where points are allocated would bring some roadies and fans to the track for the final leg. O f course your idea for the fanfare would makle a good blend of competition and entertainment. thus leaving an exciting vision of cycling to a new audience.

Have you looked at the Rapha clothing company website at www.rapha.cc/index.php?page=122? They have several articles on the rollapaluza roller racing. http://www.rollapaluza.com/ shows a roller race held in England recently. This probably isn't exactly what you have in mind, but it is something that could be done in conjunction with, or as a prelude, to a track event. On the rollapaluza page at flickr.com they show their fixie roller machine being used at a bike rodeo type setup in London.

Would a bike skills rodeo for kids, maybe adults too, fit in with your concept? Some of the local clubs and advocacy groups get be brought on board to help then, and they could get media attention to bring in crowds.
